Nike: Women workers demand justice

In partnership with Global Labor Justice (GLJ), which partners with unions organizing in global supply chains to build strategic campaigns and ``Asia Floor Wage Alliance (AFWA), an Asian-led global labor and social alliance that builds regional unity among garment unions.

The Fight the Heist campaign brings together 25 garment worker unions from India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Bangladesh, coordinated by Asia Floor Wage Alliance and Global Labor Justice. After Asian garment workers, who are mostly women and internal migrants, faced a human rights crisis as their wages and hours were slashed during the COVID pandemic, they have decided to organize across borders and fight back. The campaign has focused on US fashion brands, and particularly Nike, which announced record profits and $18 billion in stock buybacks in 2022, as many workers remained in debt and unable to meet basic needs. Today, the campaign is sending a photo petition from over 1,000 workers to Nike to demand wage increases and human rights protections in its supply chain.
