Belarus: Stop repression, free jailed trade unionists
![]() ![]() |
In partnership with the Belarusian Congress of Democratic trade unions (BKDP), a Belarusian trade union association liquidated by the state, and Salidarnast e.V.,a charitable association registered in Germany and based in Bremen founded by trade union leaders and activists from Belarus, who were forced to leave the country after the liquidation and repression of democratic trade unions. |
There is no Freedom of Association in Belarus. On 19 April 2022 the offices of democratic trade unions in Belarus were raided by police, and trade union leaders and organizers were arrested. In July 2022 the unions were outlawed, and acting on their behalf is considered a crime. 29 unionists remain in jails and penal colonies with terms up to 15 years, accused of extremist and terrorist activities. We call on the government of Belarus to stop the repression against workers, to release political prisoners trade unionists from prisons and to restore freedom of association in Belarus.
